Since its inception, Bay City Bike Rentals and Tours has been modernizing the bike rental market in San Francisco and surrounding areas. The idea for an efficient and easy bicycle rental operation in San Francisco was the idea of husband and wife who sought to offer visitors top quality bikes for rentals and tours. The goal of the small, family-run business was to transform the rental business with professional, bright, clean and welcoming facilities; new, high quality bikes replaced annually; exceptional customer service; and quick check-out procedures. Over the years, we’ve expanded to four Fisherman’s Wharf storefronts featuring 100s of bicycles. We feature a fleet of 1,000+ bicycles; from standard Comfort Hybrids, Performance Bikes and Tandems, to Electric, Kids and Road Bikes.
With each rental we include a map, route advice, helmets, bike storage and rear gear racks. We give you the option to comfortably and safely experience San Francisco like a true native. Guests can indulge in the road less traveled and the exciting “underground” routes through this spectacular city offers using our custom, high quality maps that detailing rides for all levels of riders and interests. In addition to self-guided rentals, we feature four Daily Guided Tours led by expertly trained guides. These tours take guests over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, around the city on a custom urban tour, and through the historic backroads of the Presidio- respectively. The guides strive to provide an excellent experience for guests, with safety and fun as the objectives of each tour.
Our Tour Guides retain the freedom to personalize their tours with their personality and to cater to their riders’ needs – if riders are experienced the tour can be embellished; if riders are novice the tour can slow it down a bit. Great White Shark Adventures — During the Fall months (September – November), thousands of marine mammals migrate to the Farallon Islands, which are approximately 27 miles from the San Francisco Bay, to breed and calve their young. This event attracts the largest great white sharks in the world. The Farallon Islands, located in the red triangle, are the known feeding ground for great whites before their long Pacific migration.
We have had many dramatic encounters from great white attacks from the safety of our vessel. These events are purely natural and part of everyday life at these islands, and truly unforgettable!
Our adventure from San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf to the Farallon Islands is a full-day excursion and includes continental breakfast, lunch, coffee and beverages. This trip also provides an atmosphere with an education on great white sharks and the Marine Sanctuary of the Farallon Islands.
Our shark encounters are viewed from the surface in full view for everyone. On some trips, we see 2 or more sharks; on others, we don’t see any sharks at all. Our goal is to provide an opportunity to experience a great white shark sighting and encounter other marine life.
The Farallon Islands are a safe haven to 37 types of endangered species, 400 types of birds, elephant seals, California sea lions, and stellar sea lions. It is also a popular migrating stop for many types of whales, including the blue, grey and humpback whale, with the possibility of porpoises and dolphins.
This is a great expedition for anyone who loves the outdoors. This rare adventure will provide you with an opportunity to observe such an occurrence with a great white shark attack as well as a memory of a lifetime!.
